Alignment-Dependent Atomic Model for Electron Transfer in Ion-Molecule Collisions
The alignment-dependent atomic model for treating electron transfer processes in ion-molecule collisions [Shingal and Lin, Phys. Rev. 1989, A40, 1302] is reviewed. This model has been applied to collisions between H and He with H2, and recently also to collisions between He and Ar ions with H2, where alignment effect is being explored experimentally.
متن کاملObservation of orientation-dependent electron transfer in molecule-surface collisions.
Molecules typically must point in specific relative directions to participate efficiently in energy transfer and reactions. For example, Förster energy transfer favors specific relative directions of each molecule's transition dipole [Förster T (1948) Ann Phys 2(1-2):55-75] and electron transfer between gas-phase molecules often depends on the relative orientation of orbitals [Brooks PR, et al....
متن کاملMulti-electron processes in atomic collisions ± theory
For the theoretical description of the multi-electron processes induced by charged particle impact we use a relatively simple perturbative method. The second-order approximation is valid for protons and antiprotons of moderate and high velocities. Electron correlation is taken into account by the use of con®guration-interaction wavefunctions. The agreement with the available experimental data f...
متن کاملYoung-type interference in projectile-electron loss in energetic ion-molecule collisions.
Under certain conditions an electron bound in a fast projectile ion, colliding with a molecule, interacts mainly with the nuclei and inner shell electrons of atoms forming the molecule. Because of their compact localization in space and distinct separation from each other, these molecular centers play in such collisions a role similar to that of optical slits in light scattering leading to pron...
